Faithe Colas began a twenty-year career in communications and public relations with the Milwaukee Courier newspaper in 1987 and retired as the publisher in 2007.
Learning the newspaper business from the inside, Faithe worked her way up from sales representative to advertising manager. It took her five years to advance to the next level - associate publisher. This may have been the most demanding job at the Courier, but her love for the paper, or, “having ink in her blood,” as it is known in the industry, made achieving success easier.
Having proven herself to be more than capable of handling greater management responsibilities, Faithe was then promoted to editor, a promotion she says upon reflection was “bittersweet.” The paper’s longtime editor, Walter Jones passed away and she was called on to assume his responsibilities.
THE SALVATION ARMY
Community Relations Director

In 2003, Faithe reached the pinnacle of her professional career when she was named publisher of the Milwaukee Courier, only the third person to hold this position in the newspaper’s storied history.
November 2007 marked a period of great transition for Faithe as she left the newspaper business and embarked on a totally new career. Faithe accepted a job with The Salvation Army of Milwaukee County as that organization’s community relations director. The shift has helped Faithe realize the fulfillment of a lifelong dream – to work for an organization that touches the lives of people living in Milwaukee in meaningful ways.
As co-host of Black Nouveau, a weekly news magazine featuring stories of interest to Milwaukee’s African American community, Faithe is able to feed her creative hunger. The people she meets and the stories she tells provide a window for viewers to gain a deeper appreciation for the African American culture, its people and history.
Faithe is also a contributing voice & panelist on Milwaukee Public Radio’s ‘Lake Effect’ and is a partner with VonCommunications, a public relations business she manages with her husband, Milwaukee 1290 WMCS AM radio talk show host Eric Von.
She has co-published Bronzeville, A Milwaukee Lifestyle: A Historical Overview, and co produced MPTV’s Punching In, a documentary recognizing African American men and women who built Milwaukee’s Black middle class through the manufacturing labor force.
Faithe is a lifetime member of the NAACP, and holds memberships in the Black Child Development Institute, Wisconsin Black Media Association, the Black Public Relations Society Milwaukee Chapter; Public Relations Society of America and the Milwaukee Press Club. She is a founding member of the Milwaukee Chapter National Coalition of 100 Black Women and sits on the board of The Eisner Foundation, Kindergarten Plus and the YWCA of Milwaukee.
Faithe has one daughter, Paige. A step-daughter Erica and two grandchildren, Domonic and Erielle.
