As the daughter of a Beauty Shop owner and Milwaukee Public School Painter, Alicia Nanette Walker has always called Milwaukee, Wisconsin her home. After earning her Doctor of Pharmacy degree in Kansas City, MO, Dr. Walker returned to marry George Walker and later became the mother of two boys (George 4 and Alfred 2).
As a full-time working mom, she practices retail pharmacy in the Metro-Milwaukee area for Walgreens. Dr. Walker has been with the company over 25 years and recalls her first days with the company as a waitress. Dr. Walker is grateful that her work as a pharmacist allows her to attend to the needs of those who may not fully understand their health conditions and how their medications may best help them.
As a woman who is concerned for the underserved health needs of the Milwaukee area and who believes in professional development, Dr. Walker became a member of The Cream City Medical Society. This organization is the oldest and largest organization representing African American Physicians and other doctoral level health care professionals. In 2009 she went on to become president of the organization. Dr. Walker reports that she has been blessed to have the opportunity to continually work with the organization as it has provided education to its membership, free health screenings to the general public and raised scholarship funds for students pursuing doctorate level degrees in health care.
Dr. Walker also serves on the State of Wisconsin Prior Authorization Advisory Committee. This committee helps to determine what medications are preferred for state of Wisconsin Medicaid recipients. Dr. Walker has been recognized by the state of Wisconsin for her commitment and contribution to the betterment of the community and by the City of Milwaukee as a corporate trail blazer for her leadership and positive impact on the city of Milwaukee.
Dr. Walker also was honored to receive the Black Excellence Award from the Milwaukee Times Newspaper.
