LAUGHTER IS THE BEST MEDICINE!
Hey
Divas! Have you ever heard the saying “Laughter is the best
medicine”? Well I am here to tell you that the experts absolutely
agree! A number of clinical studies show that laughter improves
physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health. Laughter appears to
lower blood pressure, reduce stress hormones, release tension in the
diaphragm and relieve pressure on the liver and other internal organs.
Laughter also stimulates the immune system and helps to balance the
body’s energy fields. People who have developed a strong sense of
humor generally have a better sense of well-being and control in their
lives.
When we are experiencing negative stress in our lives, it is very
important for us to find healthy ways to manage these situations.
Below are several suggestions involving LAUGHTER, HUMOR, and COMEDY
that will help us to get through these tough times!
Learn to laugh at yourself: Don’t take life so seriously.
I’m sure all of us can recall a slight stumble, verbal slip, bodily
mishap, or a hilarious episode that we’ve caused.
Enjoy the humor of others: We encounter funny with a great
people every day. Even in the most serious moments, take the time to
listen to that witty comment or joke that they have to offer, then
laugh silently or laugh out loud! What’s the worst thing that could
happen?
Seek humor in negative situations: Sometimes situations are so
bad that you just have to find the comedy in it all. Because if you
don’t laugh, you’ll surely cry. In the end, you will discover that the
situation is not as bad as what it seems.
Attend comedy shows: Comedians make fun of real life issues
such as relationships, culture, financial issues, family matters, and
current events. They encourage us to laugh at ourselves and the world
around us.
Watch movies and television shows with comical themes: Let’s
watch some media that causes us to laugh so hard until our stomachs
hurt! Some of my favorites include Tyler Perry’s “Madea” (all of
them), “Martin”, “George Lopez”, America’s Funniest Home Videos”, “The
Nutty Professor”, and “Dumb and “Dumber”. There are so many more!
Observe the humor among family and friends: Our family and
friends can be the biggest sources of laughter! They tell the funniest
stories, we share the most comical interactions, and we feel the most
comfortable with these groups of funny folks.
Observe the humor among children and animals: Both children
and animals are often oblivious to the world around them. They tend to
do what they want, when they want, the best way they know how. It is
by far the most unexpected and unscripted comedy we could ever
observe.
Search for comedy everywhere: When you have time, surf the net
for jokes, look for comical props such as whoopee cushions, clown
noses, horns, squeaky toys that make unusual noises, and test them in
the most unlikely places. Wear a t-shirt or a pin with a funny
message. Then watch the responses of others!
Smile often: When one smiles, it usually indicates that one has
positive thoughts. Greet others with a smile. Smiles are one step away
from a laugh. I guarantee that your smile will become a laugh before
the end of the day.
The side effects of laughter: NONE! So Girlfriends….a laugh a day may just keep the doctor away!
